Unlike garments or items made from fabrics like cotton, linen, or polyester, which can withstand twisting, wringing and high temperatures, crochet clothing or items made by crochet, which is made from yarn is much more delicate. The pieces created by hooked loops require special care to maintain their shape and ensure long-lasting durability.

Laundering Process

Hand Wash

Avoid machine washing: Crochet fabric is far more delicate than woven textiles and machine washing can stretch, distort, or unravel the loops.

When laundering, wash with cool or lukewarm water and use a gentle detergent. Hot water can damage the yarn, causing shrinkage or loss of shape.

Dry Flat

Gently press out excess water. Do not excessively wring out or twist the crochet article. This can distort its shape .
Then lay flat to dry. Always lay your crochet article flat on a clean, dry towel to air dry.

Avoid hanging the crochet article while wet, as this can stretch and cause the fabric to deform. If it has slightly stretched during washing, reshape it to its original form while damp, to help the article maintain its intended shape and size.

Ironing

Do not iron or apply direct heat to the crochet article.

High heat can ruin the yarn loops and burn the textile. If you need to remove wrinkles, use steam from a handheld steamer or an iron. Keep the iron a few inches away from the article to avoid direct contact with heat.

Alternate Machine Method

If washing in a domestic or commercial washing machine, be sure to get a delicates, laundry mesh bag or other protective barrier to protect the crochet item during each wash.

Wash the crochet item with a gentle detergent on the Delicates Washing Cycle setting to ensure gentle handling of the piece.

Dry as instructed above.

Storage and Handling

Try not to hang crochet article, by hooks or hangers for long periods of time. The weight of the garment or item can distort the loops and stretch the fabric. Store the piece flat in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight.
